[15/02/2011] Ugglebo Clogs is suing UGG boots
Ugglebo Clogs, a Minnesota company, is suing Deckers Outdoor Corp., the UGG boots parent company and seeking judgment that would prevent the latter from using the brand name UGG. According to Ugglebo Clogs, the use of UGG as a trademark name directly harms their business and constitutes trademark infringement. The lawsuit was filed on January 20th and is demanding a court trial, and it states that the Ugglebo brand has been sold in Sweden for more than five decades, and the use of Ugg as a brand name by Deckers Outdoor Corp.” diminishes the value of the Ugglebo brand.” The plaintiff also states that the term ‘ugg’ is commonly used in Australia and refers to sheepskin boots, while Deckers have managed through aggressive advertising to turn it into a trademark name in the United States.
