[15/03/2011] Scam letter hit Worcestershire
The Worcestershire Regulatory Services team has thanked the residents of Droitwich Spa and Bromsgrove for their help in fighting fraud. In February alone more than 100 suspected scam letters have been collected by the residents and forwarded to the team, which said that many of these letters came from abroad. Most of them were well-known schemes such as fake lotteries, which fraudsters have been using for years, while others were blatant forgeries, trying to extract credit card and other sensitive information from unsuspected victims. The appeal to the public to drop suspected scam mail in a designated mailbox is a part of a larger campaign that aims not only at investigating fraud attempts, but also at raising awareness amongst the Worcestershire residents of the various schemes that criminals use.
