[15/03/2011] More than 1billion AUD lost in online scams
Online scams are believed to have reached $1 billion in damages in 2009 and the used schemes are becoming more advanced and fraudsters are coming up with even more ingenious ways to trick their victims. The most common schemes are developed in the work-from home and dating/relationship fields, and some experts believe that the losses could be even higher since many of the victims were too embarrassed to report the crimes. The scammers are after credit card numbers and personal information, and statistics showed that lower-income groups and older people are far more likely to become victims of their schemes.
