Teaching-resources-uk also known as PCC education ripped me off. Below is a copy of the letter explaining my grievance that I sent to the company:

Dear Lorraine

I am writing to express my shock at a phone call I had this morning with one of your colleagues.

A few weeks ago I received a letter about renewing the licence for PDC Education online. Immediately on seeing the letter I was reminded that the licence expired on 12th February and felt no particular need to read on.

Then on receiving a letter recently I am told I am too late to cancel the renewal despite the fact that the current licence has not yet expired. It may well have been stated in the terms and conditions that notice of renewal or cancellation should be given one month prior, but I feel let down by a technical issue when the school has supported and benefited from what I felt was an excellent resource for one year.

I feel slightly treated like a criminal who has to pay a £1000 fine simply for not sending an email or making a phone call to you. I am not in any position to extend our subscription as the funding we received is not available this year. We also do not have any further need of it as a resource base.

I wish to cancel my subscription once the licence has expired and thank you for an excellent service in 2008.

I phoned trading standards who felt it was an unfair term but unknown to me the school I work for paid the £1100 when PDC education threatened legal action. I feel let down by the company and wonder what the teacher's who write their resources would think of it.

[16/12/2009] Jane Bryce: Our school has just been a victim of this PDC company's underhand methods also. A staff member signed up for a 14 day trial found the resources of no use to our special needs schools and forgot all about it . Now we have been billed for over £500 . We have tried to cancel but keep getting bills from them. We do not intend to pay as we have no funds and do not want the resources.

[05/03/2010] Tracy Doyle: We have had the same a number of times over various trials, subscriptions and renewals that are virtially impossible to cancel (the small print includes renewal ad infinitum unless you remember to cancel months before the date!)

We have now refused to pay any more, and will wait to see if they take us to the small claims court.

The big irony is that PDC education are supposedly an award winning company: http://www.gapwork.com/aboutus.shtml along wirth directors Rebecca Jordan and Kirsty Weir .. I wonder if they're aware of the bad reputation of their company?
