Do not use these companies »02 February 201103/02/20116
This company must not be touched. My car was sent there with a problem with it's engine. Was given an estimated invoice of 3100.00, when asked what why it was 1400.00 higher the the quote given on the phone they gave a long list of extra jobs that needed doing. I was tol that this was the price and if I didn't want the work completetd I had to pay 690.00 to get my car back with the engine in bits. While talking to Martin, I was told whtaever I did it had to be payment up front, who would require this. Started to incetigate and found ourt what a rouge company they are, trading under many names. The web site is very convincing about when you get thee it is a dirty workshop with no speaking tradesman. It is now the 3 February taken all my engine parts out of the car (not being a mechanic) I can see that I have no gearbox returned. Now not sure what else is missing.

Advice »12/05/1028/03/20113

I was a victim of Brentsouth Trading Ltd, the predecessor of Bray Engineering Ltd. I have an outstanding CCJ, but am unlikely to see any money, as BST are currently liquidating. I am glad I took the matter to County Court, for me it was a form of closure. It is now vital that everyone involved lets government agencies know about what is going on at this unscrupulous site. Here is my advice for coping with the awful situation of being well and truly conned. 1. If the company is still trading, take them to County Court to recover your losses (car, money, other expenses incurred) - fairly easy and much cheaper to do your self. Then you become a formal creditor. Use a third party debt order, to get the money. Good on those that were able to pay the bill with their credit card, as they can claim through their credit card company for that cost, but that still wont compensated for the loss of their now dismantled car or engine. 2.Report the case to YOUR local trading standards office. Do not report it to Ealing TSO unless you live in that borough. 3. Report your case to YOUR local MP. He has a duty to respond, and will liase with Virendra Sharma. Virendra Sharma M.P. for Southall does not have any obligations to you unless you live in his constituency. 4. Report any irregularities in Trading documentation to Companies House, e.g. wrong company registration number, no proper company identification (see [www.businesslink.gov.uk] (link: http://www.businesslink.gov.uk)) to Technical Offences Team, Company House, Crown Way, Cardiff, CF14 3UZ. 5. Lodge your complaint with Companies Investigation branch enquiry@cib.gsi.gov.uk Tel 0207 5966 100. They are a government office, who have the legal muscle to act against rogue companies in the public interest, so the more people who let them know the scale of this problem the better. 6. Notify any other agency that may be appropriate in your particular case e.g police DVLA VAT - Customs and Excise etc. People will be conned in the future bacause not enough people did anything about it in the past!

Renault Scenic wrecked »Jan 201104/02/20111
I filled in an online form when my car broke down.
This company contacted me and quoted £995 for "a brand new engine supplied and fitted and guaranteed for 5 years/ 60.000 miles". They picked the car up , dismantled the engine, then contacted me with a revised quote of £1776 - £1992, referring me to terms and conditions about "servicable exchange" that I was not made aware of before. They said I could either scrap it or get it back at a revised cost of £438.
In the end I got them down to £250 and they returned the car - with the engine in pieces in the boot, on the seats and in the footwells. The gearbox and crankshaft had also been removed for no reason. The car is therefore irreperable.
Costs - £250 for them, £60 insurance on replacement car so far, £300 tax & mot on replacement car and a £1700 Renault Scenic wrecked.Costs still mounting.
After investigating, I found many other similar and even worse stories about Bray Engineering aka reconditioned-engines.co.uk at www.xomreviews/recomditioned-engines.

Engine unfit for purpose »09 09 201228/03/20131
DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY.
I am one of many victims of this company, which incedently, is run by a convicted fraudster in PRITPAL SINGH.
This man has been struck off the directors register but is still stealing from any unwitting victim that comes along.
I bought an engine from these utterly repulsive people in August 2012 and after paying £1100 for the engine and £850 to have it fitted, it was found to be worse than the engine I'd had removed.
The unit was making considerable noise from the oil pump, wasn't holding pressure, churning out clouds of white smoke and the big end shells were rattling badly.
I contacted these people (A word I don't like to use to describe them) to inform them of the problem
and they told me the person I need to speak to "HAYMISH" was busy but he would call me back in 10 minutes. He never did.
My wife rang them on the following Monday, and again, she was told someone would ring her back. They never did.
I rang them on the Tuesday and was told exactly the same thing and again, they did not ring back.
The mechanic from the garage tried and again exactly the same thing.
This went on for 8 days!

We eventually got through to them and spoke to HAYMISH and because of what these people had put us through over the past week,
We demanded a refund. They told us, No refunds could be given because we'd had the unit for more than 7 days and the problem
should have been reported staight away. This we suspect is the reason they would not respond to our calls for the first 8 days.

I am a full time musician and I need my van to get me and my equipment to gigs all over the UK, but without my transport, I was
having to cancel gigs or hire another van. Because of this, I agreed to let them repair the engine, but was told, I would have to pay
to have their defective unit removed and couriered back to them because they were not liable for any costs incurred.
This I totally disagreed with, but they would not move.
My van had now been off the road for 4 weeks over something that should have taken 1 week.
Because the van was taking up valuable space in the garage I was asked by the proprieter if I could take it somewhere else
to be repaired because he couldn't afford to have the space taken up any longer without knowing how long this was going to take.

This I agreed to do, The garage in question had been most helpful and I had no qualms with them whatsoever.
I had the van taken to another garage about a mile away, which again, I had to pay for, £50 recovery
and was quoted £450 to remove the engine so it could be sent back to Direct Engines. I explained to the mechanic, everything that had gone on and
he rang them to find out a bit of history on the engine. They had nothing to provide him with. All we had was the description
on the advertisement which was A VW T4 2.5Tdi 2004 with a mere 52000 miles on the clock. Removed from a rear end
write off vehicle.
The mechanic says the engine, which he started up to listen to before removal was in his opinion much older and had probably
done many more miles than they had stated. This now comes under advertising standards in my opinion.
I was also informed on the VWT4 forum that the 2.5 TDi AJT engine had ceased production in 2003.

With this my mechanic had developed a very wary attitude to this company and because of this,
He photographed the removed unit with all the ancillary parts still attached (which they wanted us to leave on) and sent it via courier.
The engine was returned 2 weeks later to the wrong garage (It was sent to the garage we used the first time)
and again, we had to pay more money to have it moved to the garage where the van was.

When my mechanic removed the shrinkwrap, he noticed the oil cooler and various components were missing.
He rang DE to ask the whereabouts of the oil cooler and they told him, there was no oil cooler on the engine when they receved it.
The engineers instincts were spot on. He emailed the pictures of the removed engine, clearly showing
the missing oil cooler and it's various components, to which they replied leave it with us, we'll make some enquiries and get back to you.
This they never did.
Again we were back to ringing everyday and having the phone put down on us and even having abuse thrown at my wife, which I will not print on here.
This went on for a MONTH!

We eventually got through to someone and after while we got the answer, The oil cooler was defective so we threw it in the skip.
We asked for the return of the "defective oil cooler" so we could verify that it was indeed broken but we were informed
the scrap man had emptied the skip and it was long gone. They refused to replace the oil cooler after a
long argument with them, so eventually I agreed to purchase a new one at a cost of £400 plus vat, just so we could get the engine put back in.
The van has now been off the road for 3 months!
The oil cooler was fitted and the engine replaced about a week later.
On start up, the engine was exactly the same as it was before it was returned to them for "Repair",
IE no oil pressure, the oil pump rattling, clouds of white smoke and the big end shells rattling.
The mechanic again rang direct engines and told them of this Major problem to which they simply
replied tell the customer to pay to have the engine removed again and sent back to them for another "repair".
This I was not prepared to do, so the engineer asked them to send their mechanics log
sheet so he could go through their repair and eliminate all possibilities. This they refused to do.
Another month of ringing up, being ignored and no contact whatsoever from DE passed,
so I gave the garage the go ahead to do some investigative work to try and find out what the problem is.
The engine was removed and dismantled to find the same defective oil pump. They had not even changed it for
a new one. I had to buy a new one. We had the big end shells replaced, the engine put back together and refitted.
This had cost me another £1590.
We started her up The oil pressure issue was cured, as was the bottom end rattle, but still we had masses of white smoke.
Because of DE's refusal to send their mechanics log sheet, all we could do was take out, strip down,
rebuild as many times as it took to find the problem. I took the van to a diesel speciallist to have the pump
timing checked and reset, but she is still the same, hard to start and producing masses of white smoke.
She is now 6 months down the line and we are still no closer to having a fit and proper useable van having
spent approximately £7000 on her and DE still will not accept any responsibility for this disgusting episode.
It is lucky for them I am not a violent man because most people would have gone up there and knee capped
the scum on behalf of the countless others that have suffered at the hands of these theives.
Even the credit card company have come down on their side, which makes them as bad, if not worse.
PLEASE DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY.
If we can spread this story far and wide it will at least save some other poor soul this agony.
Please post on your respective car forums.
Kind regards, Steve Place & Leela Stapleton.

Astra Engine »12/01/201117/03/20110
Engine failed on Astra Cdti, found Recondioned engines on the web, talked to them & they promised the earth (hindsite is wonderful)They quoted £995 + Vat to totally recondition the engine but wanted 100% up front, l refused & offered 50% & balance when engine rebuilt which was agreed. Delivered the engine on 12/01/2011 & was told 7-10 days. Waited patiently for 2 weeks with no contact from them so decided to phone them & that's when you realise what a scam they are. You get left hanging on the phone, a differant person answers all the time, eventually after a week of trying l get hold of Ronnie & he says engine is stripped & parts on order so you think finally getting somewhere WRONG. Another 2 weeks goes by & nothing, try phoning again & get the usual run around until l get told Ronnie not there anymore so get guy called Kevin & he says engine not been touched but will get it done & get back to me, a few days later surprise Kevin phones me but with the news that the head is too badly warped so will need a new one, will cost £300 extra but if paid now engine will be done within a week so regretably paid £300 more - HUGE MISTAKE. Have even driven from Devon to see whats happening only to find Ronnie is back but got even more lies etc etc etc. While l was there other people where arriving demanding there cars back but with no joy. Anyway as it stands l have paid them just under £900 & have no engine with little hope of even getting a box of bits. They are a complete SCAM outfit.

It regards to my vehicle, a silver MAZDA, 6. I have been dealing with Reconditionedengines.co.uk also known (although I didn't know at the time) as Bray Engineering of 169 Brent Road, Southall, Middlesex, UB2 5LE. Contact No; 020 8744 7007 or 020 3384 6840. First made contact in August 2011,

I checked the site, spoke to the people, was offered a tour etc etc. On the 19th, with an agreed cost of £1700 (including VAT) I said go ahead and they promptly picked the car up on a flatbed and took it away. On the 26th Aug I got a suprise, the price had escalated to £3278.00. Apparently I needed another engine block!

I have paid £500.00 into the first account:
Account Name: Bray Engineering LTD
Bank: Santander
Account Number: 87251885
Sort Code: 09-01-27

and have paid a further £1,500.00 into the following account:
BANK ACCOUNT: BANK OF BARODA
COMPANY NAME: BRAY ENGINEERING LTD.
ACCOUNT NUMBER:92000426
SORT CODE:60-93-74

Although I have tried in vain to contact them, email and phone calls, I have had no response. To-date, there is a total of £2,000 with VAT added and I consider that I had my monies taken through deception and consider my car as stolen!

rebuilt engine failure »May 200904/06/20120
I paid BGV Engineering £2000 to rebuild my Subaru WRX engine, then just 452 miles later, that engine failed.
I called Bob Bennison (full name Ian Robert Bennison) of BGV Engineering, I informed him that the engine had failed in such a short distance and the reply was 'tough, thats why I dont give warranties'.
I took the matter to trading standards and was advised he was in breech of the 'sale of goods act' and that the engine was not built fit for purpose. Upon quoting this to Bob did he decide to acknowledge the problem by offering to look at the engine to diagnose the problem, and if found at fault, repair it for free, however if the fault was not down to him, he would charge us for it.
Of course, my confidence in his skills and honesty were broken, for all I knew he could have made it look like he wasnt to blame, or just tell me as such and charge me for the privilage, as of course I wouldnt be to know what he has or hasnt done to my engine. So I refused this offer and requested that the engine be diagnosed by an independant garage, which he agreed upon.
I of course had to pay for the independant garage to get involved, I received the report, and the failure pointed to oil contamination. This was relayed and shown to Bob, and of course, he has been trying to wriggle out of it every which way ever since, adimant that it is not his problem and is nothing to do with him. Even though the oil contamination was caused by either the old reused engine parts not being cleaned out correctly, or the wrong sized parts were used. Both of which are down to BGV.
I have now taken this matter to court, but trying to get any amicable response from Bob/BGV has been a nightmare.
With costs and expenses growing by the day (so far I have paid out £5174 and that doesnt include loss of interest, stress caused, personal compensation and a loss of sale as the car was due to be sold for £4000 the day it failed)
I have given Bob several opportunities to make offers or to try and reach an agreeable, sensible arrangment, all of which have either been replied to with irrelevant responses or ingnored completely.
I have also recently found out that I am not the only person he has done this to, wich has given me even less faith in his workmanship and ability to try and solve problems.

Bought an exchange engine from these rogues for £1080. When it arrived it was wrong engine code so wouldnt fit in the car. They uplifted both engines to make alterations and returned their engine over a week later. Engine was fitted with new belts etc as per their warranty insists. Cam belt failed after 1000 miles cusing £1500 damage due to a bent timing casing. Phoned them up and they say its down to us as we should have noticed when fitting. Why didnt they notice when sending or swapping components? I fitted a unit which was unfit for purpose supplied by them. How can it be my fault? Wont return phone calls and wont reply to emails. Dont buy anything from this bunch of conmen.
