Education pack »06/03 on going08/04/20096

I received a phone call on 6/3/09 saying that it had been noticed that I had logged on the easy education website with regards to year 6 Sats papers. The callers name was Sharon. Sharon wanted to sell me on trial a pack of DVD's for my daughters use and said they take 4 days to come out and then you have 10 days trial, I asked how do you know when I have received them can you tell when they are inputted onto the computer she said yes.

I received the pack on Wednesday 11/03/09 so if you include that day The 10 days would be 20/3/09. I phoned at the tea time of the 20/03/2009 as the extra £60.00 ( as I had paid £5.00 postage and packaging) was shown as pending out of my account. I spoke to David Moore and said this to him and that I didn't want the packs and they hadn't even been taken out of the wrapper, he told me to phone back Monday when I spoke to him and somebody called Alana in sales and they told me to send the discs back special delivery and they would refund the money and the cost of my special delivery.

I phoned to see if they had had the package and was told they had received it on Tuesday the 24/03/2009 and I was told a cheque was being sent out to me. When I didn't receive this by the following week I phoned back and was told ok we better cancel the cheque and we will send out a new one. I then spoke to Alana and was told a refund had never been authorised for me and that the manager was not available to sign the refund off and that he would be in the following week.

I heard nothing from them so phoned them again 8/4/09 spoke to David Moore and Alana phoned back and said that I was not entitled to a refund as I wasn't told the 10 days started when the disc went into the computer the manager is never available a Peter Gordon as I have asked for him a couple of times.

I have been given conflicting information all the time they haven't listened to the call that was made on the Friday evening cancelling the pack. I said surley it would be 4 working days to receive the original pack any way she said not weekend would be included.

This is sham of a company who proberbly never intends to pay a refund to anybody they have my card details also as I paid the original £5.00 to them. So I am now £70.00 out of pocket and don't even have the original goods which they kindly said they would send out again if I pay the postage cost.

Please Help

6254Educational Consortium Institute - ECI [Aptos]

Ripped off by ECI »10/31/200904/11/20094

ECI entered into an agreement with myself and PRM to have two students hosted in my home from Sept until June 2010. Without proper notice or an agreement ECI removed the students without [] (link: http://www.pissedconsumer.com/) the terms of the contract and violated the rules of tenancy termination of California and the terms of a verbal contractual agreement.  There was discussions about the concerns of the students( not meeting the requirements of school and the program) and possibly removing them but ECI nor PRM had reached an agreement with me concerning terminating the agreement. On the last week the final student was in my home one of ECI employees removed him from school without notifying me and I was looking for him as he didnt return from school, to later find out that he was taken after school to another home, but I was never notified that any student would be leaving. I have requested that they meet the agreement and pay as they have left me without students and vacancies. I followed all the rules that I was provided. ECI became upset when I did not have the time to take off of work to take a student to the doctor for immunizations even though their own manual says that students must meet immunizations requirements before attending school. This was the job of the educational coordinator. They basically dropped the students here and was not available when I tried to contact them with concerns.

I would like for ECI to honor their agreement with myself and PRM and pay the sum due under both agreements, $11,900 which is due... reflecting the balance due on agreement from Sept to June 2010 for two students.

ICS - The company with no morals »Jan 0924/05/20092

I foolishly signed up for a course over the phone in February of last year after taking advice from an 'experienced course advisor' who assured me I could easily juggle my full-time job and another seperate course as well as the'flexible'ICS degree - he failed to tell me about the limited support time and signed me up for 6 modules at a cost of £2,500 without offering me the choice of less modules at a cheaper cost. When, inevitably I began to struggle under the workload - I contacted their support team to be told that the support was limited and if I suspended the studies I would lose that. I then asked about a transfer to something less time-consuming and was told as a 'gesture of goodwill' and a fee of £250 I could transfer. Upon phoning up to pay the 'transfer fee' I was told I would still have to pay for full fee for the original course and the transfer fee and the cost of any new course. At this point I complained - and eventually they responded that they were unwilling to do anything but are happy to take £2,500 in return for 3 folders an out of date CD rom and an abrieviated textbook. Consumer Direct reckon I should pay something to cover the admin costs but not £2,500 for a course that I am (a) no longer doing and (b) feel conned into in the first place - Trading Standards are getting no-where with them. One letter from Tony at Small Claims however ,had them cancelling the agreement  and saving me having to pay £1,300 for nothing - thanks Tony!

scam »07/11/200712/02/20092

About 15 months ago I enroled with Computer Training College. I agreed to pay £2600 over 24 months for professional materials, practice sessions and tutor support included in their A+ and N+ courses. Price was high but there was a promise of work experience. Couple of months into study I already knew somethings bad. Books they sent me contain material available on the internet for free, I couldn't get a practice session even though I tried hard, and tutor support did not exist. There was no contact from them in months and recently my direct debit just stopped ( I didn't cancel it ) and they demand more money. I already paid about £1500 for nothing and I don't want to pay anymore. I want my money back. I looked them op on internet forums, They charge between £2000 and £4000 pounds for courses that are worth maximum £200. They are getting sued by people, and they lose, so I think I need to get myself a solicitor. The service they are providing is not satisfactory, and they should be avoided.

RISE University FRAUD »June -July 201016/07/20102
I recently enrolled at an online university called RISE University. They are apparantly in UK and in USA. I paid 99 pound for enrollment and I had to pay another 2oo pounds for my materials (which is an online classroom). The website looks great and the materials are very professional. After I finished studying, I wrote the online test. When I got the results, the computer had changed some of my answers to different ones and marked them wrong. When I phoned them about it they said that the software sometimes does that and that they will correct it manually. This is however done on purpose, because on the website you can choose to redo the test for 480 pounds. I think they change your marks so you can get lower marks and pay to take the test again. They kept telling me they will fix it in 2 hours or tomorrow. This was about a month ago. They also told me to pay another 99 pounds to get my graduation pack including my certificate and my transcripts. I paid and they said I will receive in in 7 days. It is a month later and I haven't received anything. I have phoned them every single day just to get the phone put down when they here is it me calling. They told me that the university has existed for 10 years, but nowhere can I find anything about them on the internet. They also claim to be accredited by the International Accreditation Organization, but this is also not true. They also have an online chat. As soon as they see it is me chatting, they log off. The names of the two people who lied to me and stole my money is Chris Anderson from America and Ben Taylor from the UK. The website is www.riseuniversity.com. 1-877-849-RISE (7473) 0800-635-RISE (7473) These are the two numbers given on the website. I have also emailed them probably about 20 times and had no reply. They have my bank details, and I am affraid they might steal my money. The emails I have is care@riseuniversity.com and canderson@riseuniversity.com. At this point I just want my money back. They have lied to me and took money from me for no reason and wasted my time I could have used to study something legit. Please someone help me.

Complete scam. My daughter was ripped off by centrepad after applying for a job as a teaching assistant. She is 17years old and I am very angry that she was conned into paying £295 to train as a teaching assistant. I listened in on one of my daughter’s internet classes and in my view this is just a way for centrepad to line their bank account and the training is pointless and has no real benefits. I immediately instructed my daughter to obtain a refund. She called centrepad around 7 times and was always told someone will get back to her but this did not happen. After numerous calls I decided to accompany my daughter to the centrepad office to get a refund. When I got there(45-157 St John Street EC1V 4PY) I spoke to a lovely lady called Janna who informed me that centrepad does not operate from that address and she has never heard of them and she has worked there for 5 years. She checked on all floors but no one was familiar with centrepad. I have now written letters of complaints to Trading Standards, The Office of Fair Trading and Watchdog.

Students and Staff beware »200803/02/20091

Potential Students and Staff beware.

I would like to bring to everyone's attention, the lack of support for staff within The Manchester College. I will not go into the full details, but due to the reprehensible behaviour of management staff, Not at any time was I support by the college. In fact the college goes to great lengths to put out this mission statement that it's support is there for all staff and students alike, well that's fine for the publicity, but in reality it does not happen. Also Senior management make a point of treating you like some kind of Leper, if you look like you cannot cope.

In addition since the merger last Summer, things have become worse, admin is non existent, HR hasn't a clue, and members of staff are treated as if they are worthless.

I would advise anyone who is thinking of looking at courses to give the college a wide berth and go elsewhere, because TMC is certainly not outstanding, far from it.

Netspan Rip-off »04/08/0906/05/20091

I purchased thier postal package and found out within the week that the information was available from the post office for free.  I contacted Netspan and told them I didn't want the package and would like a refund.  They told me to send it back and a full refund would be sent out 7 days after they recieved the package back.  Fed-Ex sent me an email stating who sighned for it and when they recieved it.  I called to make sure they had gotten the package and have gotten the run-arround every scince.  I've been told the recipient doesn't even work for them, they don't know anything about my claim, "I'm not in the computer", and can never reach the supervisor.  Further research into their company shows a history of ripping people off and makes me wonder if I'll ever get my money back.

I WANT A FULL REFUND!! »May 200902/06/20091

I signed up to do a web design course in August 2006.  I forwarded my first assingment in around about December.  Over the next few months i found out i was expecting a baby and in April 2007 i found out i had breast cancer.  I had a Masectomy in May 2007, had my little girl on 30 July, 2 months early. My chemo lasted until the end of January 2008.  I then developed a bacterial infection in my left arm due and now have lympodemia in my arm, This has affected my arm and has made it impossible for me to sit and type at the computer for long periods of time.  I was off my work for a long time and went back in February 2009, with only certain duties i can do now.  Over the last 2 years i have had a lot of things to deal with and this course was at the back of my mind.  A monthly Standing Order for £75 comes off every month.  I wrote to them at beginning of May and also enclosed a letter from my doctor saying that i would be unable to do the course and that i was cancelling it and i wanted a full refund of the money i had paid so far as i cannot continue with the course .  I have not received an acknowledgement letter to say they have received my letter nor have i received any refund.

TO DATE (5/6/09) I Telephoned them on 5/6/09 to see what was happening.  They will cancel my course and standing order, BUT THEY WILL NOT REFUND ANY THE MONEY I HAVE PAID, i think this is outrageous, as i only did one assignment and i was critically ill for the rest of the time and unable to do the course.

Cancellation & refund »18th October 200827/07/20101

Hi, Sorry about the length of this letter. My name is David and in late 2008 I had a home visit from a Skills Train consultant. I am disabled and unable to walk, so I have to use a wheelchair when I go out. I wanted to be able to improve my computer technical skills so I signed up to the course. The cost was £3700 with £100 deposit and £100 a month over 3 years. Before I signed the contract I told the consultant that I would not be able to attend any outside classes or exams and he reassured me that I would be able to complete everything in my own home, exams and all. The consultant also told me that I had a cooling off period of 7 days in which to cancel the contract. How to do that would be included in the welcome pack and first module, which he said I will have in 2-3 days. In the meantime he gave me a bag containing an outline of the course to read at my leisure. However, the welcome pack and the first module took 18 days to arrive. When I rang the company to find out where my pack was, after 5 days they said that my enrolment/student number was not on their system yet, but I was again assured it would be with me soon. When it did arrive I read part of the module and it wasn't what I told the consultant I wanted. It was the basic computer system, what the different parts were etc. I learned all that back in the early 90's. The course was totally useless to me. I rang Skills Train to complain and to try to cancel my contract but they said I was too late(even though it was not my fault) and the course fee had been paid by the finance company (Career development finance) and now my contract was with them. I rang the finance company and was told that I had signed a binding contract and even though I wanted to cancel it when I saw what the course consisted of they said I had an obligation to pay the debt off. Being on income support I had trouble finding £100 a month(I thought it would be ok when I signed up but I had unexpected long term financial problems with my disability) so the finance company have referred me to a debt collection agency (Debt and Revenue Service)who have arranged for me to pay off the loan at £20 a month until I can afford more. I didn't worry too much about this until recently when I tried to get onto the website and login to my Skills Train account and I get told that I am unable to access the site and to please send an email and they will get back to me immediately. Well this has been 7 weeks. I did do the first module of the course which I stretched out to a few months, but have done nothing since May 2009. All I wanted from the course was to get the skills to be able to be a competent technician and offer my services to the public at reasonable prices to supplement my income support. I didn't expect to make a fortune out of it just enough for my wife and I to live comfortably and to be able to pay our bills on time. So the bottom line is the course I signed up for I didn't get, and the one I got, I can't do because I can't access the website to be able to send in assignments. As I have said I'm on income support and don't have spare money so going to a solicitor would be a last resort. I received a letter from them yesterday and they said that they were going to come to my home on 29-30 July 2010. I will not let them in or even talk to them as I will take them to the county court as a last resort. I sent them the following letter by registered mail yesterday (Monday 26th July) MS. J Johnson Career Development Finance PO Box 815 Luton LU1 1WZ 14/07/2010 Dear MS. Johnson, Account No PE1405014T Supply of Goods (Implied Terms) Act 1973 (as amended) On 15/10/2008, I entered into a Hire Purchase agreement with you for Microsoft Accredited Computer Course from Skills Train. The following problems have arisen: • I was not given the cancellation procedure in writing when the contract was signed. This I am entitled to by law. I rang after 3 days to cancel after I saw the BBC watchdog program which called the course a 'SCAM' and to find out how and what to do, but was told I couldn't cancel because the money had already been paid to Skills Train. • The course is not what I signed up for. I wanted the advanced course. The course I received I learnt back in the early 1990's. For the last 12 months I have been unable to access the website even if I wanted to submit a session, despite numerous attempts and form filling with NO reply. • The course provided was 5 years out of date at contract date • The course is not a Microsoft accredited course. I have several letters from companies like Microsoft, Cisco, e-Skills etc. denying any association with Skills Train or any company associated with Skills Train. • I am now receiving legal advice in this matter and I require cancellation of the contract forthwith and refund of all monies paid. If you do not comply with my request I will be forced to take you to the county court under The Protection from unfair trading regulations 2008 I understand that under the above legislation, it is your responsibility to resolve the matter and would therefore ask that this is done within the next 14 days. Do you think I should continue to fight them or just start paying them again?
