I was looking for a pay day loan and made few applications - I received an email subsequently from e-credit plus saying that I'd got a catalogue account with them with an up-front fee of £99.50 and a monthly fee. As I had given my bank debit card details I contacted the bank about this payment. However, it's been charged to my Visa card - I'm not sure how they got the details of this card? It's possible that one of the applications I made asked if you had a credit card and providing details would 'assist' in getting a pay day loan - not sure though? I 'phoned e-credit plus at the first opportunity and the (American) women I spoke to did everything she could to keep me on the 'phone for an extended period (I assume it's a premium rate number)including a long hold to get a reference number for a refund - I've been told the money will be refunded in 7 to 10 days but I'm not confident that this will be the case. This company are just a bunch of scammers who, despite the UK address, I would say are based is the USA.


UPDATE


Received full refund onto card account yesterday (31/01) - my advice to anyone else would be, 'phone as soon as you find you've been charged - be totally firm in asking for a refund - give your reasons for doing so - and don't be side-tracked by any offers or deals they might try to come up with - don't get abusive or make threats.

I had a "life of the loan" agreement with RBS at a low rate.  When RBS decided to "change" their agreement and triple raise the rate I decided to pay it off and cut up my card.  After a fight, I called for the total amount due and was given the pay off amount and paid them off ($3700) on line that same day. I just received an additional bill for a finance charge.  Very small amount but a principal issue.  I refuse to pay it!! I am retired, could care less if they send it to collections (if they are stupid enough to do that and I think they are) but I will not pay it.


RBS is a company who preys on good customers.  I paid relegiously more than the minimum payment due.


They can take their Finance Charge and stick it where the sun "don't" shine.


I sent them back the invoice, paid the postage relunctly, and told them exactly that.

after ring them as i was late paying as the bill was late getting to me i told them i could only pay £50 they said ok and i told them aboutt the bills not getting to me they said it was not there tholt and that it was mine i am under the doctor for depresion whitch i have told them this and they said so thats not there job to worry after a month i new it was due so again i rung they said it had been sent out but it was not here again on time they said it WAS NOT THERE FOULT by this time i was £70 over my limit and they would do nothing about it they would not take a small pay ment off me and said  it will just keep going up till they get to £1000 then over to det collectors i still do not have the statment come though although i get the letter saying they are going to add charges to me they just dont want to help me and now  i dont have any money

In August of 2008, I opened the bill from HSBC GM Card, a card I had since about 2000, and regularly paid as agreed,  Expecting a credit balance of $39, (I had returned some shoes which were credited back) I was shocked to see a charge for $879.00 from Dell.  I immediately called the number by the charge, as I had not made it.  I spoke to a representative of Dell who referred me to their fraud line, which turned out to be a porn line, as was verified by the service rep who gave it to me when I called him back.  He had no other number to give me, but said he would report it to someone.  I then called HSBC and reported this fraudulent charge, thinking they would help me.  They said they would refer it to their fraud dept and asked me if I would like to activate my new card.  I informed them that I hadn['t received a new card and would not like to activate it, as perhaps that was the origin of the fraudulent charge.  They immediately canceled that card and sent me a new one.  I thought all was well, but it wasn't.  About 2 months later, I received a notice in the mail from HSBC that they would be unable to help me with this fraudulent charge because it was a "secured transaction".  I subsequently called them to complain, and they said there was nothing they could do because I had the card in question at the time the charge was made.  I reminded them that I didn't have the new card that they had sent out, and they once again referred the case to the fraud department, who once again sent me another notice saying their was nothing they could do since I had the card at the time of the transaction and it was a secured transaction.  It was now 3 months since the event had transpired, and they had told me not to notify the police because the fraud dept would take care of all that.  I didn't know what to do except not pay the charge.  As the card became past due, I began to receive frequent phone calls from collections, wanting me to pay for this huge bill.  Dell informed me that the charge was for a digital camera that had been mailed to Las Vegas, no where near where I live in Bakersfield.  Eventually, this episode began to effect my credit rating, and in February, they invited me to pay $679.00 to settle the bill for less than the amount.  I did not know what else to do, so I paid it, since my daughter is in college and I have to have student loans for her.  This company basicly helped the person who made this charge to get away with fraud.  They held my credit record up for ransom and I was forced to pay to save my credit rating.  I will never have any further dealings with this horrible company whose actions basicly contribute to the success of credit card fraud and identity theft.  Every day we are at risk, as most hotels will not let you check in without a credit card, even if you offer cash up front.  It takes only the card numbers and the 3 digit security code on the back to make a so-called secure transaction by computer(plus the victims address and zip code, also readily available to any hotel clerk).  I do not doubt that I am not the only person that this has happened to, and since I had no experience with this type of problem, I did many things wrong.  I trusted this company to help me when their only interest was in making sure that they did not lose anything.  Even if you think you have no HSBC Cards you should no that this bank under the name retail services, handles many major Dept store cards.  Buyer and credit card users beware!  Yes, this could happen to you.

I received a call from Mary at Excalibur saying that they could lower my interest rates down to between 5-9% for all my credit cards. Mary also Guarantee me that I would save at least 3500.00 in interest charges. Mary also claimed that if they didn't they would refund the whole amount charged to my credit card.

I was to receive information via e-mail which I never did, I have left messages on their answering machine saying I would like to cancel as no services has been provided.

By mistake Lena called trying to set up an appointment on April 5th 2010, I told her I wanted to cancel as I had not talked to anyone from Excalibur nor did I receive any e-mail. Lena's response was that she would have Mary phone me; needless to say I have not received any more phone calls.

The banks are quite aware of the problem but do not help in any way. I will post this every where I can until I get my money back and hope other people don’t get taken like I did. This company will do nothing for you but take your money.

i was struggling financially with xmas nearby so applied for a loan some how they got my bank details and on the 18/11/10 then 19/11/10 and again on 22/11/10 they claim if you read up about them on a search engine its a one off fee but i never even applied and theyve done it 3 times so far so now im stopping my card and gonna try get my money back i imformed my bank santander the 1st time and they were not very helpfull i asked them to stop the transaction taking place and any future ones but obviously they have not so im stopping my card and shutting my account.ifeel santander are partly to blame as i informed them on the 18/11/10 and they still let more funds be withdrawn. NOBODY DEAL WITH ECREDIT PLUS OR ECREDIT CATALOGUE, THEY MAYBE SOME REPUTABLE COMPANYS WITH SIMILAR NAMES AND IF SO TAKE UR CHANCE ON YOUR HEAD BE IT.

I was looking for a credit card and came across Choice Freedom Platinum, they promised £750 credit limit.
Part of the form asked for my debit card details in order for them to verify that I had a valid current account.
The following day, I had been debited £29.95 in the name of CFBENEFITS. I contacted my bank to query the transaction- they informed me that they had heard of the company- (of Ill Repute).They promptly cancelled my card and issued me with another. Told me to phone and ask for refund...however, no telephone number or address could be found. I then looked on other sites to see many many other complaints about the same CHOICE FREEDOM PLATINUM.

I was giving a Rbs Clasic credit card after my branch persuided me to apply for one.


After a few months I had reached my limit but was continuing to pay the bill each month.


In october (2 months from my 21st birthday) I received a payment to that account of £2100.


I then mistakenly took that as a payment from my gran for my birthday because for my 18th I was givin £1800 and it was coming up my 21st and the sum of money was £2100.


I then notified the bank and they said they would notify the credit card department and if there was any mistake they would get in contact with me straight away.


A week later I looked at my balance again via Internet banking and the balence was the same as before and I had still no comunication from anyone so I decided that because my washing machine was broken and I was in dyre need of a new one I would buy one.


I bought the washing machine and spent on a few varous other things that day to the value of around £650.


The next morning I received a phone call from the credit card company saying that someone had mistakenly paid money in my account and that they were taking all the money back because the person had made a mistake. they continued by saying that I had 3 months to pay the money back that I had spent, I tried to explain that I am an apprentice and I do not get paid that much so I would need more time. ( never once did I say I wouldn't pay)


After two phone calls from the company I asked to speak with a manager thinking he would be more help considering the fault basically wasn't my own. He continued in terminating my account when I said I could't pay in the three months and has wrecked any chance I have of getting a morgage.


They also went into my current account without my permission or any warning prior and took the money out which left me with no money to pay anything for a hole day and bank charges becuse I went over my overdraft limit but thankfully my branch corrected that.


I wrote a letter of complaint and about a month later and with the help of the CIB I phoned the head of complaints manger after receiving a letter asking me to do so.


He then went on and said that I was at fault but after we managed to agree that if I pay back the money in the 3 months I would regain my credit card, I chose to agree because I did not want to ruin my credit rating. ( I still do not believe that I was at fault.)


 A week before the deadline and I have payed the money back. Just after I made the payment I requested that I receive my card and they tell me that my account was terminated and I can not recieve the credit card and my credit rating is now that bad I cant even get a storecard.

Taken out a credit card from mbna -virgin at 0% interest 15 months after this was supposed to go to 16.9%. They decided to make the rate 34.9%. After my letter to them reduced it to 24.9%. Went to the financial ombudsman but a waste of time. They are still advertising this rate but I fell we are being discriminated by them and tricking people by offering them a rate then altering it just when they feel like it. I have never known an interest rate like they are charging only seen this before on a store card.

Recently i have been a victim of harrassment from the credit card company capital one . They have been ringing me at least twice a day of which they didnt leave a message or contacted me by post.

Around 3 weeks later they finaly left a message for me to contact them and so i did but every time i contacted them and this was like over 16 times they said the person that i needed to talk too wasnt in and this was even if i rang them after they rang me as i was still getiing annoying two calls a day which was a hour different between them.

A week later i managed to get the person that i was supposed to talk to and he said that it was about the fraud transcations that i reported . The adviser went through every think and at the end said that the trabnsactions arent fraud and that they will be transferred back onto my card within a few weeks .

These transactions were fraud as i didnt make them my self as i lost the card when the transactions where made.

I have also tried to cancel my account before these trabsactions were made and they never closed my account.

I have also research the company and found out that other customers have had issues like this that happend to them and capital one just got away with it .

I demand my account being closed and no further action taken against me then i wouldnt take any further action against them .

I decieded to get one of their credit building cards as i have got very poor credit rating. This card was supposed to build your rating which it didnt it just made it worset i paid the bill on time everytime so i couldnt see why.

My other problem is that they are making me pay for fraud transactions that i didnt make when i lost my card .

When i try and get through to them on the phone i always got someone that didnt speak english and i couldnt understan them

My advice to other people dont go to capital one they just want your money they dont care about their customers.

When i was trying to sort out the fraud charges i told them that im not going to pay they started to get abusive and threaterning me that i i didnt pay the full amount over the phone i will be taken to court. I still refused as i didnt make the charges .

A few days after the call i kept on getting harrassment calls at least twice a day . This isnt right they shouldnt be able to treat their customers like this.

After the harrassment calls i tried to call them back and all i got is the person is away for a few weeks even though i phoned them up straight after they phoned me

What i would like from capital one is all my money back and the account closed

Recently i haave been reciveing information through the post from capital one ( pin number , cards and a number of letters) I have contacted them saying that i havent opened an account with them and that some one who has stolen my details have created. I also told them that i am getting letters from them saying heres your replacement card when i never had a card or requested one. Since this has happened i have phoned up capital one to see if there was any balance on the card as they were made with my details i thought that it would be ok . Once i was through the automated voice told me that the balance was 190 avaliable credit out off a £500 limit . I yet to hear from them about this matter and all i want is for the account to be closed and yet they arent willing as there is a balance on the card and they are demanding the money to be paid straight away even though i wasnt the one that made the transactions. For this matter to be sorted would be that the account and any other accounts in my details to be closed as they wasnt opened by myself.

I ordered some items from Viking Direct using PayPal.
The payment was declined for no apparent reason. So I made a direct payment to Viking using my Bank Credit Card.
I was shocked to see on receipt of my next statement that despite the declination the amount has been paid.
I have contacted Capital One 4 times and everytime they have reassured me that their dispute dept was dealing with it.
I have tried contacting PayPal but it is like banging your head against a wall, No response at ALL.
Viking have have tried to contact them as well but no joy!!!
I am considering making a Small Claims through Court but I wonder if these Judas's are above the law?

Recently I received post from capital one which was everything apart from the card . I never applied for this account and got straight in contact with experian about this and they agreed that my identity had been.stolen so I then contacted capital one and was told that transactions have appeared on the account totalling £810 of which I didnt do as I never applied for the account or had the card. They said they can not take it as fraud as my details matched I said to them that they would match as my identity had been stolen and they requester have got all my details . They said that I am liable for the £810 and need to pay it as soon as possible. I feel that I should not pay it as I didnt apply for the account. I have sent a number of complaint letters of which I am yet to hear from. I would like the balance cleared and the account closed like it should of been done weeks ago .

Just a warning to all unassuming consumers....I have been a customer in good standing with JP Morgan Chase, formerly Washington Mutual credit card company. NEVER late with a payment. When I first received a credit card form them over 2 years ago, I had a 6% interest rate. Today, just 2 years later they have imposed on me a 48% interest rate. I have spoken to several representatives, and all I can get from them is their empty apologies and their annoying and patronizing prattle on how they value and care about their customers, while in the very same breath give me an imphatic "NO, we will not lower your interest rate". Even after I threatened to take my money to another creditor (which I have), they refused to lower it even 1%. This is what I call "badddd business". So folks, if you are looking for a new credit card company, please don't allow JP Morgan Chase/Wamu suck you in with their 6 month promotions. You will be giving them your money for the rrest of your life and your balance will never go down. P.S....their operators and representatives are annoying and as unhelpful as you could imagine...that is...if you can understand a word they are saying.
