Wedding Car No Show compensation »16/05/200907/07/20097

Our wedding car that was booked and paid for in advance did not arrive on the day of our wedding to take the wedding party to our wedding nor did it arrive to transport us from the reception to our hotel.

We were never informed that they would not be arriving. I (the bride) ended up being driven to my wedding in my neighbours corsa, the bridemaids - in a neighbours people carrier, my brother had to drive the groom and the best man, and the make up artist took my mother ! We had to borrow money for a taxi to take us from the reception to our hotel in the evening..

All in all an extremely distressing, stressful and embarrassing situation. and the wedding video and photographs we're ruined.

After 5 weeks of phone calls and emails, we finally received a refund (after being promised it on numerous occasion and it never arriving)... but still no written explanation or apology and despite another 4 emails to the company, no sign of any compensation or even a response to my emails !

Not only did our wedding car not turn up, but the customers service we have received since has been disgusting.

See below for a extract from one of the earlier emails I sent to them.....

"I am writing in reference to the above booking for a Black Lincoln town car that we booked to take us and pick us up from our wedding - 16th May 2009.   As you are aware the limo did not arrive for either of the day time pick ups or for the evening pick up, as agreed on our booking confirmation. We were not informed on the day that the car would not arrive. As I'm sure you can imagine this caused us a huge amount of stress and embarrassment on a day which should have been very happy - something that we will never be able to forget.   We are yet to be offered any satisfactory explanation ( we have since been told that the limo broke down, but on speaking to the limo company itself they inform us that we weren't even on their job list for that day)   As of today we are still waiting for a refund of the full amount which was paid in advance, we have been promised this on numerous occasions since our initial contact with you on this matter on 18th May 12:40 pm. During this initial phone call our bank details were taken and we were advised that the money would be credited to my bank account within 3 -5 working day.  We were also advised at that point to write a letter of complaint, which we did, and posted it on the 18th May.   On arriving back from our honeymoon of the 1st June, the refund had still not been credited to my bank account and no response to the complaint letter had been received.   On the 2nd June we contacted you again regarding this matter and once again asked for an explanation regarding the limo not turning up, our refund, and a response to our complaint letter. Again we were told that the refund would be processed that day, we were also told that our complaint letter had not yet been received.   Now, on the 10th June - No refund has been received, no explanation has been received, and no response to our complaint letter has been received. We have made numerous phone calls to yourselves on this matter and are always promised that it will all be sorted by the end of the day and to expect a phone call back. We have never received a call back.   I now write to seek the following;

  • a refund of the full amount paid and confirmation of the date we should be expecting this by

  • an explanation regarding our limo not turning up for any of the 3 trips scheduled.

  • a response to our complaint letter

  • suitable compensation for the appalling service received, and stress and embarrassment caused.

After speaking to Gareth this morning, I understand that you are expecting this email and will be responding today. I look forward to having some initial response by 5 pm today."

money not repaid »14/10/200905/05/20096

We paid £40 to hire a van plus £100 deposit.  The van was not available on the day we required it so we had to cancell.  We have been trying to get our £140.00 back ever since, they have made promises of bringing the money around to the house many times, but he does not show up.  When we go down to the office he makes further promises that never materialise he has sent text message saying he will not let us down and he will get the money out of the bank and bring it around to our house the next day, but it never happens.

We just want our money back, this man is a thief, anyone who uses this company must be warned about his behaviour.

Refundable Deposit »November 200801/12/20083

I live in Cyprus & needed a car during a trip to the UK. Hired & paid GB£455.50 for a car hire from this internet based company on 18/07/08 for my stay of 16/10 - 02/11/08.  On 16/09/08 a further GB£670.00 was taken from my bank account as a "Refundable Deposit".  This was GB£600.00 on the car & GB£70.00 diesel.  I was assured by the man handing over the car to me at the airport (upon my arrival to the UK) that this deposit would be back in my account within 48 hours of my returning the car at the end of my hire.  The car was returned in the same condition as hired.  As of today's date (01/12/08) I have not recieved my returnable deposit from this company.  Phone calls were initially answered & passed around the office.  As of one week ago, they now hang up on all calls from me.  I am polite & willing to give any info they require but they seem to not wish to co-operate. We have paperwork to back this up.

PLEASE HELP

Deposit Not refunded »3012200817/01/20093

I currently live in India, on the 16th of Dec 2009, I was unfortunate to do business with Car Hire UK on the phone. The problem with phone transactions was that I was slightly lax about checking the small prints.

The first time I knew someting was wrong was 2 days after the booking when I checked my online account and extra £670 (£600 for deposit, £70 for fuel deposit) was debited from my account. The confirmation email did not contain the amount debited from my account. I found this odd as I asked the sales agent several times to confirm how much I was paying and he mentioned only £367 (assumed cost of the rental).

The problem now is the cheating company is not paying back my deposit. I have called and emailed the customer support and they have refused to respond. I found out later that there are many reported cases of unrefunded deposit complaints registered against this company on the web.

Over charging »14.8.0828/08/20082

I recently hired a car from 1car1 and was unfortunate enough to get a flat tyre. I rang the recovery telephone number and was given the number for the AA and told it would cost me £84.  The AA were fantastic and were surprised when i mentioned the charge - apparently the AA have an agreement with Vauxhall which covers all new vehicles.  When i returned home and received my credit card bill, i was surprised to see the charge had been made by 1car1.  I rang the AA to check whether or not they charge the hire company and was again told no, there is no charge.  After several phone calls to the hire company, i have now been told that i will receive a refund ..... but what about all the other people who have been wrongly charged? 1car1 do not seem to be interested in looking into this

Fraudulent Car Hire Business »16/06/0930/08/20092

I visited the UK in June/July of this year (2009) to attend my grandmother's funeral. We had to catch a taxi to the funeral due to this company's negligence. We attended this Car Hire business and paid for a hire car to a total of £350. The car was unavailable as it was 'lost in France' and would be available tomorrow. It was to be delivered every day for two weeks and never substantiated until it was eventually 'stolen'.

When we demanded a refund, it also was promised every day for another two weeks. Until he eventualy dropped approximately £100 pounds in the letter box (no where near the total amount). Apparently he could not pay because 'his secretary had stolen all the money from the business account and fled the country'.

Still, in September, we have received no refund. We have taken the company to court and they havn't even responded to a single court notice!

AVOID AT ALL COSTS, THEY WILL STEAL YOUR MONEY.

If you are a victim of this business, be sure to contact the police.

4947National Car Rental [London]

Deposit stolen »05/0919/09/20091

I recently hired a van from the National/Europcar Nottingham branch. I hired it over the weekend, and when I returned it on the Sunday the car park was closed. As requested by them, I parked it on the street outside, and put the keys in a key-drop.

A week later they sent me an invoice for the rental. I was astonished to find that they had charged me for damages! They did not tell me what these damages were. I went to their office as soon as I could, and the man there told me that all their paperwork was sent immediately to head office, so he could not supply me with a copy. He could, however, tell me that the damage was a slash in the tyre. How could I possibly have driven the van on the motorway with a slashed tyre? The damage was obviously inflicted after I had dropped it off, and it was parked on the road outside their office.

I sent a number of emails, but have so far received no reply. The first one was sent a week ago. I also phoned customer services up on Thursday, but they could tell me nothing more than the man in the office, apart from the fact that it was one of the front tyres which was slashed. He could not send me a copy of the damage report because it had gone to their insurers. They have already charged me for the damage, so why are they involving their insurers? Could it be that they are claiming for this so-called damage, which I haven't even seen? Customer Services also claimed that they had 6 hours to check in the van after I had dropped it off. I can't find this in their terms and conditions, but even if it is true, I dropped the van off at 1pm on Sunday, when I agreed to. This still leaves 13 hours or so whilst the van was outside the car park, and according to them, in their care. Can I really be made liable for damage which was not inflicted by me?

I was daft enough to give the guy a payment and deposit in cash, I should have known better but I had previously known him to pass the time of day with I was a little off guard.

Knowing the guy makes it even more sickening to be messed about like this.

Like the others I was let down on the day with some Bull s**t excuse which put me in trouble. I was renting the van to help a friend move house and only found out that the van was not available the morning I was due to pick the van up, thanks a bunch mate!

Since then I have had every excuse under the sun and had multiple promises about getting the money, every one of them plainly lie.

I really don't know how this guy looks at himself in the mirror in the morning, it's frankly embarrassing.

The latest promise is Monday, after that its gloves off time. The guy needs closing down.

Watch this space

DO NOT USE.

THIS GUY IS AN OUT AND OUT LIAR AND IS NOT TO BE TRUSTED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

BREACH OF CONTRACT - WEDDING CAR DID NOT TURN UP »3/10/0917/02/20101

OUR WEDDING CAR DIDNT TURN UP! We made the HUGE MISTAKE of booking our wedding car with Limo Broker Ltd. We booked a Chrysler Limo with them for our wedding day 3rd oct 2009. We booked the car in April so plenty of time. We paid £51.75 deposit. We called them to confirm our booking on the monday before our wedding and they said everything was fine. It was booked to turn up at midday at my house. By 12:30 still no limo. We then made 3 phone calls to Limo Broker to find out what was going on and all they said was that they didnt know. They then told us it was lost, then they changed it to the car had broken down. Me and my 4 bridesmaids were 45mins late for my wedding and had to get a tacky black cab. It was also booked to take me and my husband to reception after ceremony, so we had to use taxi's as our wedding day transport for the day. It took me alot of phone calls (and i got the phone put down on me twice when i gave them my name)after our wedding and a month and a half just to get my deposit back. Customer Service was extreamly rude. No compensation YET but Im still fighting for it. Limo broker have since admitted that it was infact an admin error in the Limo Broker Offices for the reason of our wedding car not turning up, so they actually LIED to me on the day when they said it was lost and broken down. I WOULDNT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO MY WORST ENEMYS!

Whats the point in haveing terms an conditions if your own staff carnt abide by them. Money spent on training in customer service would not go amiss where limo broker ltd are concerned. They dont have a rite to rip people off an think there wont be any come back from there fraudulant behaviour. If your after limo hire dont use this company it will cost you more than it worth.

stolen full payment »2/7/201001/10/20101

On 2nd July I booked a car hire via Decode Car Hire (London) for use in Malaga Spain from 2nd October. However just a few days before travelling I got an email from Decode saying that the car was not available. I checked with the actual car hire company they should have used in Spain and was informed that the car WAS available but Decode had not paid them since booking it at the beginning of July. I have tried 'phoning, sending letter and emails but no response. On checking the internet I find that they have been ripping off many other people in this way for a long long time. THEY NEED TO BE NAMED AND SHAMED!

I booked a hire car through Decode on 31st October 2010 for a pending trip to the UK,and they took full payment($270 CDN).
On receiving no confirmation,I made enquiries and they confirmed that no car was available. They stated that they could not refund my payment onto my credit card,(for technical reasons!!) and asked for bank account details for a refund. This I (stupidly) provided.
No refund has ever been made, and now all emails are ignored.

Subsequent internet research has revealed that this company pulls this scam all over the World!!

WWW.CAR-HIRE-UK.COM CREDIT CARD OVERCHARGE »05/12/0822/01/20090

I booked a hire car for 2 days in December 2008 with this company over the internet. I gave my credit card details to someone (I now believe they were in a call center, possibly not in the UK at all)  I was met at Heathrow, by a friendly individual called Terry, who took us to the car in the airport carpark.  We dropped the car off the following evening in a London Hotel.  Terry met us there and took the car - there were no problems with the car.  When I got home I saw that my credit card had been overcharged.. The quotation was 131 pounds and my card had been charged 810.  I made numerous phone calls, sent emails, even registered letters.  The phone system kept me in a queue for over 30 mins and on the two occasions that I spoke to someone, the cut off the call when I explained the situation.  I have now sent all the details to HSBC Visa card disputes department and they are investigating.

There are several other reports on the internet of exactly the same situation occurring.  I am not going to let this matter drop.  If anyone has managed to resolve a similar case, please let me know.  Thanks!

820Lazee Days Motorhome Rental [Derby]

withheld deposit »30 December 200806/02/20090

We hired a motorhome from Gary, service seemed ok, van struggled to stop during journey so we spent a day in inverness being told that the brakes were non existant and were in a dangerous state.  we ended up having to pay up front but gary advised us that we would get the money back (we did) we then had an unfortunate incident when a drunk threw a rock at the van while us and our children were asleep.  we got the police out and we kept the crime number.  on return to gary we immediatly showed him the front where the rock had landed.  the damage was minimal and gary said that he would see what he could do, but he would probably let it go, we decided not to pursue the dangerous vehicle condition !!  on our return journey home gary called us and said that there was damage to the back of the vehicle which had not been picked up when we handed the vehicle over.  there wasn't a lot we could say as it was word against word but gary initially seemed very reasonable.  i asked him to keep us informed of price and he would obviously take the money from the account when he knew the price.  gary did not advise me that he would take £1000 out regardless of the price and then refund us the difference.  gary took the money on and around the 30th december, he then took over a week to get a quote and then went on holiday.  gary eventually advised us that the cost of the damge was approx £800, we were shocked as we had not seen this damage when we did the handover and we were not aware of it.  we then said to gary that we had taken an unsafe vehicle on the road and what was he going to do about that....his reply was in the t & c you can get a £40.00 credit for spending a day in a garage and driving an unsafe vehicle !!!  he then told us that we were lucky he wasn't charging us for the malicious damage !!  he has informed us that the cheque is in the post, a few weeks ago.  how bad is royal mail ????  and he won't answer the phone to us !!  it is now over a month and a half later !! we won't recommend this company now and we will be taking this to bbc watchdog and trading standards and raw deal !!!  thanks for nothing gary

The Sixt agent refused to check vehicle's fuel level on return, even though this is a stated condition of rental as indicated in the rental agreement. The next day Sixt (italy) charged E75 to my credit card (refuelling charge) even though the car had been returned full. The invoice arrived about 1 month after the incident occurred. I have written to HolidayAutos (the broker), to Sixt (Italy) and even to Sixt (Germany) the parent company, but they refuse to repay my money and won't even acknowledge that Sixt has failed to comply with its own rental agreement.
