Deposit Refund »May 201222/06/20122
Had a eye consultation with Optical Express in May 2012 and discussed having laser eye treatment - agreed to go ahead.
Did not hear from them e mailed twice as I wanted written details of costs and that id paid £100 deposit.
Got a standard letter saying they wont refund my deposit but I could spend the £100 in their store (no good to me now ive had my eyes lasered with another company).
I called and asked them to refund my deposit on the grounds that I had not had any written contract/agreement from them regarding my treatment costs and deposits paid (this lead me to beleive that their service was going to be bad from the offset - I was right).
Ive sent 2 letters within 4 weeks of each other and to-date have been totally ignored by them.
Very very bad Customer Service standards and I would definately advise people to avoid this company at all costs.

Ordered a pair of glasses form this company and paid for them through paypal on 16/11/2008 and have not received them. After requesting several times for an update on the order and receiving replies such as "your order in process". After two weeks I sent them yet another mail asking for a full update on the order and stated that if they were having problems with the order I would accept a full refund, so that I could shop elsewhere. I received a reply on 02/12/08 stating that they were having problems with their old machines and that they were having new machines installed that same week, once the new machines were installed they would continue with the order and I would receive the glasses the following week. Since that last mail I have tried to track the company down and found out they are no longer at the address originally advertised as 177, St Helens Road Bolton.Their Web site also went down for about a week stating they were having problems and would be back up soon. The Web site is now back up and running and when I checked on Sat 20/12/08 their new address was 375, Brandlesholme Road Bury BL8 1HS. I have also visited their Web site today Sun 21/12/08 and they have changed the address again to 55, Gregson Field Bolton BL3 6UL Which is now their 3rd address in 3 weeks. I have started a dispute with paypal to try and get my money refunded but the case is under investigation. I have also reported my findings to consumer protection in Bolton and to the Cambridgeshire police who have given the details to the police in Bolton but as yet I haven't heard anything back. Please be warned do not use this company.

How can this be allowed? »Aug 201012/04/20111
I have been a customer of Optical Express since 2002, buying both my glasses and contact lenses there. A year or so later, I set up a direct debit to pay for my monthly contact lenses, and this is where the problem started; On a number of occasions over the years, I had to call to ask where my lenses were as payment was taken, but no product showed up. The company did not have a proof of postage to show me, although I was reassured they kept them on file (?) and the Regent St branch where I was 'based' has now closed. The irregular and unreliable dispatches was the biggest reason as to why I decided to leave this company last year and switch to another contact lens provider.

I then recieved a letter claiming I owed Optical Express £32 (my monthly direct debit was set to around £14, so even 2 'missed' months did not add up to this sum). I corresponded with a representative, providing her with additional information over several months and asking her to explain this random breakdown of the direct debits they claimed to have. I kept getting the same reply each time that they had dispatched goods in good faith and that my outstanding payment of £32 was still standing. As a loyal customer, I feel I had provided Optical Express with a monthly payment 'in good faith' for goods which I actually did not recieve on a regular basis. My querie of an alternative solution in my first correspondence considering I had not recieved all the batches I had paid for, fell on deaf ears and was not even acknowledged in the following letters.

After having provided a print of my outgoings, dating back several years, which proved I did not owe any monies and writing a letter referring to this on the 2nd Dec 2010, where I also pointed out that I had not recieved a batch after my last payment, I heard nothing and assumed this matter was now settled.

Last week I recieved yet another letter now threatening to issue a CCC. I called the number provided and was met increadibly unprofessionally by a young girl who had no interest in listening to my concerns. At this point I felt that rather than harping on trying to prove my point, I might as well pay the £32, which is probably exactly what the company was hoping for. When she put me 'on hold' (or so she thought) to let the payment go through she laughed together with a collegue saying something along the lines of 'this final letter always does the trick' only to return to the phone still laughing.
I have written emails and letters of complaints, but no reply. Not surprising as Optical express doesn't seem to be keen to keep their customers on their books.
I have worked in senior management in customer services for over 15 yrs now and at no point have me or my staff treated loyal customers in this appalling manner!

No refund of deposit »4/5/1207/06/20121
On 4th May 2012 I paid £500 deposit for IOL treatment, they debited this amount immediately on 6th May. On 18th May I was very disappointed to be told I was unsuitable for IOL treatment. They told me I would be refunded within 3-5 days from 18th May, by 31st May they still had not refunded me, I rang them on same day and they admitted an oversight. They kept my money deliberately as the jubilee bank holidays were coming up as well. This makes it exactly one calendar month, whereas I could have had interest to my bank account and therefore I have lost out.

Contact Lense Hell »29/11/0822/01/20090

In early November I took my Partner to Optical Express in Bluewater, she had an eye test and got some contact lenses ordered, 1 month supply.

on 9th December 2008 we found a sorry you were out post office card stating the package would be waiting for us at the post office, we went there and they said it was sent back, the date on the card said 29/11/08 !!!

However after calling optical express and saying the post office has said the package has been returned, and a repeat visit to the post office confirms the package is not there. I have personally called the Branch at Bluewater and spoken with the manager twice and staff 4 times, only once did any one call me back only to ask where was it sent from head office or branch, I really don't know how I would find that out!

They said I'd have to wait for the lenses to reappear in there offices.

Now it is 21st of January 2009! I'm not getting anywhere, the manager is in a meeting or too busy, and only she can refund me! The lenses have gone missing and have not been recieved back. Clearly the system needs some polishing.

I want my Money back, and what happens about the eye test we paid for seperately will we get a refund for that ?

lazer surgery »200610/10/20110

I had lazer surgery in optical express Belfast northen ireland in 2006 the offer at the time was £395 per eye, but i was told i had to pay over £1100, the reason for this i was told, was because i needed stronger lenses and that it was a life time job, now just over a year ago my eyes seemed to be getting bad again, so i went back to the same shop a short time ago, where they retested my eyes to find i needed glasses again, and when i told them that they had guaranteed me a life time job, they said they could rectify my eyes but at a further large charge, now i have mailed them about this matter but no reponse to date, i must add when they retested my eyes they got it completely wrong and ended up giving glasses that were far to strong, so i had to travel back to belfast yet again for another test thankfully they got it right this time, but i still had to travel to belfast another 2 times after that

No Refund YET - No SURPRISE THERE THEN »July 201201/09/20120

So went to my local OE for a laser consult, got told I was outside of the allowable range, but could have a lens put in. Said i'd think about it, did for a few weeks and then put a £500 deposit down (only after verbally checking with the sales rep, that I was entitled to a full refund if I choose to not go ahead for any reason - got told yes). Turned out I had new comittments that meant I couldn't have the procedure for a while, so I rang the Rep up and cancelled. Got told It could take upto 4 weeks, said no problem (pretty standard). 7 weeks and 5 phone calls later, still no refund. Everytime I phone, it's the same rubbish "our finance team will call you back shortly". Good thing I paid by Credit Card and my bank are amazing people, so worse case I'll get them to refund it, but then again technically I'm entitled to 3 weeks of interest at 8% and more importantly shouldn't have to go through this hassle. Either way shame, as I was planning to go with OE next year, not anymore.

I have recently used this company I would not recommend them. First my order was late and I had to put in a claim through Paypal they finally did turn up only to find the lenses had been fitted very, very badly and were bursting out of the nice designer frames I paid £120 for. I took them in to town to see if they could be repaired but no one will touch them. I have tried to contact the company all mails are returned as failed which is the same for every email address they have the form to contact them on their site does not work as again comes back as failed. There is no telephone number on their web site and any I have found through the internet the lines are dead. The address on their internet site is wrong and having done some research they move every month also. I WILL BE REPORTING THEM TO TRADING STANDARDS! DO NOT USE THEM! BUYER BEWARE!

Ordered specs 2nd May. Chased 31st May by e-mail (it's the only way to contact them!). Got a reply 2nd June saying they'll be on my 'door step' soon.
10th June - sent e-mail titled 'Complaint' informing them that they had 5 days to get my goods to me I would be claiming a refund from paypal.
15th June - no reply, so I've begun to claim my money back from paypal.
Wish I'd seen this site first and read the reviews about this scam of a company.

Poor Customer Service »5/01/0905/05/20090

I purchased a pair of prescription glasses on 3/18/09 at a cost of $740 paid in full at time of purchase. Glasses came in with a scratch and had to be sent out again. I picked up glasses and after wearing for an hour they began to hurt and left a huge indentation on my nose.  I went back for an adjustment-the nose pad was changed-however-this changed the position of the progressive lens, rendering my vision less than clear.  When I went back to see what could be done to remedy this I was told it was "me" and that the glasses were made to the correct specs-I was just a "difficult" customer- I should try to get used to the glasses-my problem was that they were new.  Note-my husband and I have spent over $8000 on eyeglasses in this place over the past few years!! They are very glad to take your money-but if there is a problem they blame the customer.

I want my $ back so that I can purchase new glasses elsewhere.  I cannot see without glasses and cannot afford to absorb a $740 loss.

FRAMES THAT BREAK »DEC. 2008/APRIL-MAY 200907/05/20090

In December 2008 I purchased new frames at Wal-Mart Vision Center in West Mifflin, PA.  The next month after they broke on the left side at the spot near the lenses. I went to the store and sure enough had gotten my lenses put into another pair, Yet the same as the first. Then the second pair broke on the right side at the same spot as the first had done on the left. So I took them up to the manager and she said that they would put them in again. Well that was in March. Now it was in April or May and i had a third pair which the second one had broken on me in the month afterwards. Now the manager will not put my lenses into another pair. She said that i would have to buy a frame. I was told that my frames are under warrentee for susch a time. yet now i can't get anymore frames cause i have used up my insurance for frames.  I am considered legally blind and i have trouble seeing. I have no way of trying to fix the pair i have and the quality of the frames that i have are not suppose to be put on the shelf in the store of wal marts anyway. They don't check their products when they get them in the store. also they have them all up on the wall and people can just take them down and put them on their faces for sizie and that messes them all up and that breaks them down and when other people come to get glasses they do the same and so on. i have gone to wal mart for so long  but now their products are becoming crappy and more unstable and the people at some of the stores are not as friendly as all of them. the store in North Versiles is not a good one at all because they don't have no service there at all.  i once went there and came back with a size 7 shoe and i take a size 6 1/2 shoe at least. there was nobody in the shoe department and nobody to call for help and what was i to do just go and say hey where's the help at.  they was so all out of what i was looking for and i couldn't reach the top shelf so i just chosed the bottom shelf and called it a day. Now. I am tripping on my shoes and having a swell of a time  i can't seem to stay on my feet in the size 7 shoes  Yet what can i do. i did needed the shoes and they was the right price.  welllas i am typing to you now  my glasses are taped and  as for wal mart vision center. well they have just lost a customer,   ME   i am no longer going to go to the wal mart vision center for my glasses and if they have anything to say about it then let them. all they have to do is send my reacords to the address i will provide and if they don't then they better watch out for a court date cause they can't keep my records from me.   well   i hope this gets resolved because i don't want anyone else to have to experience what i am going through. believe me it is a rough situation to go through and a bad memory to have to end it this way. yet i don't like to have glasses break on me every month and i don't have the money to buy glasses like that.

Lenscrafters/Luxottica Does Not Honor Price Quote Given, Bait and Switch »7/13/200921/07/20090

After having a bad experience at Eyemasters in the same mall your store is in, I went to Lenscrafters to find new glasses. The person that helped me that day was Peggy. She seemed very knowlegeable and friendly and willing to help me. I told her what I was looking for, the price I had paid without my insurance at Eyemasters ($279.99) for designer Armani frames and Essilor lens with progressives and transitions, uv, scratch resistance-everything! I have Eyemed insurance. She called your lab to see
if you have the verilux physio 360 lens and she said that they did. She put it my insurance info in the computer, she put in a generic frame with a cost of $200.00 and supposidly everything I wanted including scotchguard. She gave me a total of $277.00 for everything. She even showed that to me on the computer. I advised her that I had to get my refund back from Eyemasters (since they did not line to bi-focal properly the glasses were a mess). I kept in touch with her over the next few days to let her know
how that process was going. When I got my refund back, I called her and advised that I would like to come in and pick out a frame and purchase the glasses. I double checked again to make sure the price was as quoted as I had done every time I spoke with her. She stated each time that it was. I told her I could come in on Friday (July 10) She stated that she was off that day and that I could speak with her co-worker Sandy that day. My sister and I went up there Friday and I chose a pair of frames that were
$220.00 D & G dd5028 in bronze. I wasn't sure about the color on the temples so I was advised to drive to the Cedar Hill store or the Southlake store to view them in another color or see other frames available. I then drove all the way to Cedar Hill. I live in Mansfield, so this was not close to my home. I arrived at the Cedar Hill location and they were very busy so I had to wait quite a while. They were out of that frame and had ordered a pair in black for another person but it was already sealed and
ready to be shipped to another customer. I then left, but was advised that I could go to the North Park Mall location in Dallas to see them and other glasses. That was much, much farther to drive and I didn't go. I went back to the Parks Mall location in Arlington on Monday. Sandy was there since Peggy was off work that day too. I decided I would go ahead and get the bronze ones. She looked in the computer for my information, typed in my RX and proceeded to fill my order, did measurements, etc. When she was
done, the price was almost $500! I didn't understand why. I explained that this was not what was quoted to me. She had the manager Charles to look at the order and he advised that I wait until Peggy comes back to work on Tuesday and let her do the order since she would know what she had done. I waited to receive a call on Tuesday, but instead I had to call her. They were busy in the store she stated, and she would call me back in about 30 minutes. 2.5 hours later, she called me. She stated she was still
working on it and would call me back. She did call me back and said she realized that she had forgotten to add something to the order and that's why there is a big difference int he price. So, I have wasted almost a week with this! I've wasted time and money driving here and there for her to have misquoted me on the price! Shouldn't the price be honored since your employee quoted it to me directly and showed that price on your computers!!! I was assured when I spoke with your employees that you were much
better than Eyemasters and that you stand behind your products and customer service is your main objective. I'm not seeing it. Sounds too much like a bait and switch to me. I will be posting this letter and my experience with your company around the internet.
I would like for them to honor the price they quoted me for what I requested. Or, they can do it for a even more discounted price or free since this has been such a big inconvenience. I've found numerous complaints all over the internet regarding Lenscrafters/Luxottica business practices and how customers are being treated.
