SCAM!!! »15.01.10yes01/05/20100
Having been in a bad money situation i was desperate for some work and came across leisure escorts. i didnt see the harm in asking so i sent an email. the next day i recieved an email asking for my mobile number and was contacted straight away. I was talked into paying a registration fee off £280 to cover my membership costs for one year. About a week later i had a call from Danielle to say that a high profile client was interested in making a booking with me. I would be getting paid a large amount of money for each booking, collected from my house and dropped home after the booking. After telling me all the good news, Danielle then told me that i would need to pay a deposit to secure the booking. This was for £1500 which i stupidly paid on the 15th January. I have not reieved any information regarding this booking, nor any news on my money being returned to me. All i get told is that they are waiting for the client to send through dates for this booking then it will go ahead as planned. I have been left in a very bad situation because of paying this money and cant help but lose faith, knowing that there are people out there that are this heartless to steal money from people that are only in touch to try and make ends meet!!!

Mis-sold advertisement »9/11/2009no30/04/20100
I am a private music teacher, recently returned to the UK, and in need of students. I received a cold telephone call from LEC offering a 21-day free trial advertisement. They required a card payment of only £3.43 for initial artwork. After a lengthy sales spiel, they persuaded me that their web site would be ideal for my purposes and I agreed to the trial. Unfortunately, I received no response from the advert and attempted to cancel. My written cancellation did not arrive until 1 day after expiry of the trial. I therefore discovered they had taken £481.83 from my account. As this amount is equivalent to a month's salary for me, I was left totally without funds for rent, bills, etc. I approached them in rather a desperate state to plead for a refund. Their response was unsympathetic and inflexible: a repeated mantra of "we never give refunds under any circumstances". I hoped that the advertisement might yield some results to make up for this loss, However, unless prospective students knew the exact URL address, it would be impossible for them to find the advertisement. There is no link to the ad from any of the search engines, nor from the company's main web page. I have therefore received not a single enquiry and feel that the amount charged is excessive for such a poor advertising service. If possible, I should like a total refund and also feel entitled to some compensation for the stress their attitude has caused and to cover the costs of the overdraft I have had to incur to make ends meet.

12207BT Customer Street [Lancaster]
Total claims:9
Mis-sold Package »Julu 2009no30/04/20102
I was made redundant in June 2009. Whilst looking for work I started advertising ‘balloon services’ on eBay. Within a day of advertising a shop on eBay I received a phone call from Customer Street. They told me that they were looking for a Wedding Balloon decorator in my area and would I be interested in them putting work my way. I would be guaranteed to be on the first page of Google for any balloon search in my area. Of course I was interested they made it sound too good to be true. I was then told I would have to pay a monthly fee to be advertised in their directories and they would build me a website for a cost. I informed them of my current situation and said that I couldn’t afford to be paying out that sort of money. They then came back to me with a cheaper price. I told them what I needed the website to do – to advertise balloon displays and to order online balloon in a box. They promised me that this would make me money, gave me examples of clients where they were inundated with business through taking on this deal. I thought because I was dealing with BT I was onto a winner, so I was taken in by it all and went ahead. My credit card details were took off me on that day and I was told that they would get me up and running for the weekend. I was told I would receive a phone call to tell me all was live. I didn’t receive a phone call I had to phone them. They said they would phone me in a month to see how things were going. Again they didn’t so I phoned up and complained. They apologised blaming their computer system. By this time I had the website for well over a month, it hadn’t appeared on any first page searches, I was unable to build a shop and I had not received any calls or interest. During this call I was told that an IT expert would ring me to see what he could do to help. He rang me and said that the package I had bought was a basic package and if I wanted to attract customers and get higher in the searches I needed to update my package costing me approx another £900. This would give me an online shop and make the website all singing and dancing guaranteeing customers. I said that there was no way I could afford this but I would consider it when my redundancy money was paid, he said he would ring me back in a month. One month passed and I still had not had any business through the website. I was getting anxious that I had spent this money and seen nothing in return. With the prospect of no job yet I really wanted to get the balloons off the ground. I had another call and after lots of talk of his success stories with other business including his Dads business and a florist in Coventry I agreed to go ahead. He said I had a good business idea and this upgrade would make me so busy. I was impressed with what he was showing me. I felt confident that because I was talking to an IT person then he was genuinely trying to help me. It was later that I found out he too was a sales person. I was told that the he would make a great job for me and it would take about a week. I paid the upgrade and was asked to supply some material to help them build the website. On the 18th August I forwarded on the info requested. I waited and heard nothing so on the 26th August I made contact again to see what was happening. It was then that I was passed to someone else. I had to supply all the write ups and photos for the site. I felt like I was building it myself. I had to keep chasing Justin for the website to be completed. Then the problems really started. I was left with building the online shop myself but had problems loading photos. For a month there were numerous conversations and emails of which I have copies(28 pages) where Customer Street could not solve the problem. I ended up making a complaint and was phoned back by a senior account manager who basically said there was nothing else to suggest for me to do to solve the problem. Nearly 3 months had passed I had paid out in excess of £1200 and had not got the website or the business I was promised. It was then that I made the decision to open a shop and try one last attempt to make a go of it. Whilst in my shop I spent all day, everyday trying to work out the website. I eventually got photos to load and learnt how to optimise the site gaining ranking position on Google. None of this was I told about when signing up. During this time Customer Street made no attempt to ring me. I worked out for myself that due to my locality, the broadband signal was not strong/fast enough to load my photos. I couldn’t believe that IT experts had failed to work this one out. At this point I wrote to Customer Street to tell them how disappointed I was with them and the money I had spent had been a waste. At this point I had not had 1 customer email or phone call through the website or directories. I told them I was cancelling and did just that. As I had wasted my redundancy with BT I struggled to keep the shop going so when I was offered a job I took it and closed the shop. The 3 months had been a nightmare for me. I then received a phone call from Customer Street about unpaid monthly cost. I told the girl that I wasn’t going to pay for a service that had been miss sold to me. As you can imagine I feel disappointed by my whole experience and very let down by BT. I strongly feel that BT have miss sold me this package, failed to support me on getting the website up and running and conned me into thinking that a better website would attract more customers. I have since been advised that it’s the position and key phrases that gets you the business not how glam the website is. I will now have to take legal advice on how to proceed with this. I know talking to other website builders that Customer Street have been taken to court for the way they have conned people. This adds further distress to my life as all I should be concentrating on is proving myself within my new job and getting my life back on track. After receivng phone calls from a debt collector I have agreed to pay the outstanding £138.82. This has only been paid to prevent legal action. I will continue to fight the case against CustomerStreet unless some sort of compensation is applied to this case and someone stops them operating like this.

The specialist equipment supplied did not perform as 100% guaranteed but they always put the flase reading down to operator error. Manufacturers of the equipment state 95% reliability in controlled Workshop conditions. Other franchisees ahve ceased trading and are now broke and special deals have been made with some while others are being harrased by aggressive Debt collection agencies.

Booked to stay overnight with family on the website, made a change to the date and when we got there, the booking made was basic. They advised by changing the date, the requirements of the room were cancelled - I could not believe we were hearing this, no cots available and therefore my 2 yr old plus 6 yr old had to sleep on the floor. There was no apologies or customer service, they handed us the keys and carried on. Later on we headed down for supper to find limited stock as many items not available, so after we then took the kids back to the room to find the smell of smoke in the corridor, obviously this was not been checked. At 7:30 there was loud music, girls going in and out of rooms and again smell of smoke. We asked the girls to keep it down but it got unbearable and the kids got upset not been able to sleep. We all left the room and went to reception to complain, we were advised that a call would be received from the manager. No call so I wrote email of complaint and still couple of weeks after nothing. I resent the complaint and then was told this will be investigated - I am still awaiting a response and I think it is disgraceful of the lack of contact and the policy of no smoking not used by this travelodge. We couldntbear to stay here and travelled 100 miles home late that evening just so we could get a decent night sleep. I requested a refund but again nothing !!

I only wish i had did a bit more research online before buying from Alfresia, i bought a parasol and it was damaged (looked as if it had been packed that way rather than damaged in transit) i contacted the alfresia customer service and was told to send photos, which i did the same day but i have not had anything back from them, i try to ring (at any tie of day) and its always an answer phone, you cant get in touch with anyone. I suspect this is major fraud and they are sending out damage goods and i guess the probability of some people chasing refunds returns means they get away with it. I guess i need to speak to my credit card and request a chargeback? does that mean i have to return the damage item at my own cost? regards rober

I ordered some health and fitness supplements from a website called cheapdiscountsupplements.com. However as soon as i clicked "pay now" on their website my pc screen went blank and i did not receive any error or indeed any confirmation of the transaction. In fact their website claimed i had no orders outstanding and still had the items in the shopping trolley. Foolishly i repeated the order (i thought there was some technical error or a time out had occured) and guess what, the same thing happened, the screen went blank. Immediately i tried to contact them by phone but only got a recorded message claiming all customer advisers were busy. I tried twenty or thirty times that day. I also sent a message through their website explaining i had mistakenly ordered twice and enquired if there was a problem with their website. No reply was forthcoming. I checked my bank balance transactions and the money had been debited twice. No sales invoice or confirmation was received. I did some digging on google and my suspicions were confirmed. Numerous stories of orders not being fulfilled and scam and rip-off claims. Please do not use this company as you will lose your money.

Damaged home, poor windows »Nov 2009no29/04/20100
Safestyle fitted double glazing to my home and left holes in the plaster, walls and left the windows spacers hollow. I contacted them and they sent a team out to look at the work and they promised me a repair of the damage would be forthcoming. Yes, they send out a team and the plaster work was re-skimmed and the hollow windows were filled with expanding foam but the overall quality and finish was appalling. I have paid out £6500 for new "all singing and dancing" windows that are much worse than the original glazing! The installation has left holes in the plaster work under the windows that they could not seem to be bothered with putting right. I have been truly ripped off and would warn anyone who was looking at replacement doors and windows to shop around carefully. I have pictures to back up the shoddy workmanship and a noisy home to prove this if it is needed. A very poor show.

Your money disappears faster with MPH Engineering »20 April 2010no29/04/20100

As I write I fear what is ahead. The signs are very bad. After uneasy conversation a couple of weeks ago with "Dave" I eventually agreed to pay 50% of the quoted cost by credit card for my Volvo V70 engine remanufacture by MPH Engineering or Reconditioned Engines, up front. I try never to pay more than this in advance. Like many others I have been promised calls to be returned an invoice to be sent and reports being reported. Not one call from them yet. I also have had very rude and aggressive treatment (by "Paul") and the phone being put down though no threats of house burning as others have had – yet. I have been lied to and fobbed off as the stated engine re-delivery date has now passed. My last conversation with Ryan ending cheerily this evening with "talk to you tomorrow, buddy" – here's hoping. This was after I determined not to get into a disagreement or to protest and I nodded agreeingly at the tirade of bullshit. Apparently a 'super engineer' from a specialist company is going to look at the engine tomorrow. According to Ryan, my particular engine fault (sheered head bolt and burnt out valve) requires this super brain. When I requested the quote initially this particular engine fault was stated very clearly and was absolutely guaranteed (by "Tom') to be covered in the remanufactured engine quote I was supplied with. My fear is that this will be contradicted tomorrow by Ryan when he, no doubt, calls me when he said he would – and the moon gets delivered to my door on a stick.

Short changed Pension »July 2009no29/04/20100
I had a pension policy with Friends Provident, which matured to give me a small pension in July 2009. However of the final fund value, no terminal bonus was included, although over the years, in all the literature, letters and correspondence, great emphasis was put on the fact that a terminal bonus would be paid. In 2005 Friends Provident stopped paying annual bonuses. The decision by Friends Provident not to pay annual bonuses was qualified by a commitment to pay them as a terminal bonus. At no stage was it ever stated that a terminal bonus would not be paid. I had written to the then Friends Provident Chairman Sir Adrian Montague who replied stating that the growth is being delivered via terminal bonus. As Sir Adrian Montague CBE is a past or present Chairman or Director of the following companies I accepted his written word – my mistake, it is not to be trusted :- British Energy, Michael Page International PLC, Network Rail, Cross London Rail Links, CellMark AB, Infrastructure Investors Ltd, Partnerships UK PLC, London First, Skanska AB, Anglian Water Group (AWG) Limited, AWG group companies Osprey Acquisitions Limited, Osprey Holdco Limited and AWG PLC. He is also a member of the Housing Finance Group and a Trustee of The Historic Royal Palaces. On demutualisation in 2001 the share value of Friends Provident was 225p. When Sir Adrian Montague became Chairman of Friends Provident, the share value was about 173p but he sold Friends Provident recently to its current owner Resolution for 79.4p missing an opportunity to sell a year earlier at 150p. Although during that year his remuneration increased by nearly 30%, a great many loyal shareholders had lost thousands. I feel that I have been mislead, short changed and given very poor service by Friends Provident for years, culminating in not receiving any communication in the vital final months prior to July 2009. In conclusion I would suggest that anybody going to start a pension fund should look to other companies. If you have a pension policy with Friends Provident then you are probably getting a poor return on your investment, so look to transfer to another company through an Independent Financial Adviser.
